Naming ceremonies are an interesting part of a celebrant’s job. I like to work with older children who are being welcomed into a blended family; this way I get to make a contribution to the dynamic and it is an opportunity to provide clarity and belonging for a young person.
A naming ceremony can be to introduce the first name of a person to the world. It can be to mark the change of a surname – where a child joins a family and is included into the family group by the changing or adapting of the name.
That said, it is always a delight to cuddle a little person and support a new family in providing a loving framework for their new baby.
Naming ceremonies are increasingly being used there has been a gender reassignment and the marking and celebration of that reassignment is desired.
